History

Drupal was founded by Dries Buytaert on May 18, 2000 and was originally intended to be a message board. Dries Buytaert and his friend Hans Snijder were looking for an internet connection they could use for school. Due to the lack of permanent internet connection on the university grounds for students to use, they decided to set up a wireless bridge between their dorms. Their final product shared Hans’s ADSL modem connection among 8 other students. Their experiment worked, but they thought something was missing such as a place to talk to each other. The missing piece urged Buytaert to create a small news site with a message board so they should share with each other.
